How to add a link to your Instagram bio
Where the field actually is, and what to do when you have more than one thing to link to.
Instagram lets every account add links to its profile. The setting has moved more than once, so here is where it is now, followed by what to do when one link is not enough.
The steps
- Open Instagram and go to your own profile.
- Tap Edit profile.
- Tap Links. On older versions this field is called Website.
- Tap Add external link.
- Paste your address into the URL field. You can add a short title, which is what shows on your profile instead of the raw address.
- Tap Done, then Save or the tick.
If nothing appears on your profile afterwards, close the app fully and reopen it. The profile view caches aggressively and often shows the old version for a minute or two.
Adding more than one link
Instagram now allows several links on a profile, shown as a stack when somebody taps through. That helps, and it has two limits worth knowing.
The first is that it is a plain list of titles, so it can show what a destination is called but not what it is, why it matters, or what it looks like. The second is that the links live on Instagram, which means they are only there, and only for as long as Instagram keeps the feature in its current shape.
A single link to a page you control avoids both. It can carry pictures, sentences and a sign-up form, and the same address works on TikTok, YouTube, an email signature and a business card.
What to put behind the link
Ask what somebody wanted when they tapped it. It is almost always one of four things: to buy, to book, to check whether you do the thing they need, or to keep up with you.
Lead with that one. Everything else can sit below it. If you want the page to do more than point outwards, an email sign-up form is the piece that compounds, because an address is yours and a follower is not.
